There are many variations on the Negroni cocktail that build on the classic formula of 1 part gin, 1 part sweet vermouth and 1 part Campari. My standard preparation combines Bombay Dry Gin, Carpano Antica Vermouth and Campari with a few drops of bitters, stirred over ice, poured straight up and garnished with an orange slice.
This lighter version substitutes sweeter Lillet Blanc for Carpano Antica. Unlike, some Negroni variations, this drink is made with the standard 1:1:1 ratio. Here, it is served with a slice of Meyer Lemon, but it is quite nice garnished with a small sprig of rosemary or tarragon.
- 1 ounce Aviation Gin
- 1 ounce Campari
- 1 ounce Lillet Blanc
- 2 to 3 drops Fee Brothers bitters
- Citrus garnish (one sprig of either rosemary or tarragon may be substituted)
- Fill a cocktail mixing glass with ice. Add gin, vermouth, Lillet Blanc and bitters. Stir vigorously. Strain into a cocktail glass, garnish and serve.
