Broiled grapefruit is both tart and sweet at the same time. It’s a great way to start any meal. Here, the grapefruit is topped with brown sugar, a Luxardo cherry (the original maraschino cherry) and finished with Maldon flaked sea salt.
- Pre-heat the broiler.
- Slice the grapefruit in half and loosen the segments using a serrated knife.
- Place on a baking sheet and broil for 3 to 5 minutes or until the sugar caramelizes. (The rings or bands from a Mason jar can be used to stabilize the grapefruit halves. Thanks to “Cook’s Illustrated” for this tip.)
- Garnish with a sprig of mint.
